Who we are
MyEduConn is operated by MyEduConn Technologies (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in the Republic of South Africa. We provide a communication and learning platform for schools, parents, students and tutors. For school data, the school is the responsible party and MyEduConn processes data on its behalf.
What information we collect
- Account details: name, email address and, for students, date of birth.
- Academic records: homework, hand-ins, marks, reports and attendance.
- Messages, announcements and files you share in MyEduConn.
- Technical information: device and browser type, IP address and sign-in times.
Why we collect it
We use this information only to provide the educational platform: letting schools teach, report and communicate, keeping accounts secure, and meeting our legal obligations. We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
We do not share personal information with third parties except the service providers we need to run MyEduConn:
- Stripe — payment processing for tutor sessions and school payments.
- Resend — sending email notifications.
- AI drafting provider — only the text a teacher asks to draft or summarise; we do not send student names or personal records for AI processing.
- Hosting and database providers — storing your data securely.
How long we keep it
We keep account data while your account is active. When you request deletion, your personal identifiers are anonymised within 30 days. Academic records your school must keep by law are retained by the school without your personal identifiers.
Your rights (POPIA and GDPR)
You have the right to access, correct, delete and take a copy of your personal information, and to object to its processing. In MyEduConn you can download all your data and request account deletion under Settings. Users in the European Union may also exercise the right to erasure under Article 17 of the GDPR and lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority. South African users may complain to the Information Regulator.
FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
For users in the United States, MyEduConn complies with FERPA. Student education records are accessible only to: the student themselves (if 18 or older), their linked parents or guardians (while the student is under 18), their enrolled teachers, their school principal and their school administrator. No education records are shared with third parties without written consent, except as permitted by FERPA.
Every view of a student's marks or report is recorded in an access log. When a student turns 18, the rights over their records transfer to them and their parents' access to academic records ends.
Children under 13 (COPPA)
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. Students who tell us they are under 13 cannot use MyEduConn until a linked parent, guardian or school administrator approves their account.
Cookies
We use essential cookies and local storage to keep you signed in. Optional analytics cookies are used only if you accept them. You can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie preferences" link.
